Villa Raki, a piece of history
During our joint holiday in 2019, the idea arose to buy the ruins of Pappous (grandfather) Mandylakis and turn it into a holiday home. The house was dilapidated, the roof had collapsed and it had been vacant for more than 30 years. A number of original details were retained during construction. Such as the original front door which hangs at the beginning of the staircase with its house number still intact. In addition, some of the wooden sleepers and the iron bars on the windows are still authentic. The niche – which used to serve as a refrigerator – inside next to the front door has also been preserved.
In March 2024 we put the finishing touches to the furniture and welcomed our first guests.
The name Villa Raki
Raki, Crete’s traditional drink, has become a symbol of friendliness and hospitality on the island. The traditional kazania is held between October and November. This is the distillation of the Raki and connects friends and strangers alike. Charaso also has its own Raki distillery.
